Month: January 2018

My Journey to a Healthy Me, Day 30

Only one more day, and I will have made it the whole month on keto.

I’ve been shadowing this blog along with my current challenge on the forums at Nerdfitness.  My current challenge “Tateman and the battle to avoid surgery” is in it’s final week. The first challenge of the year is from January 1st thru February 4th. Then a week off, and the next challenge starts.

Each new challenge you set yourself 3 to 4 goals. Usually one exercise type goal, two health, and one life goal. My goals were Keto eating, walking, sleep at 12:30 am, and posting there along with blogging here. I obviously don’t have much local support, so online is where it is at for me. People reading this, posting here, and people at Nerdfitness. I am happy anytime I see someone comment. I’m trying to get out there more for people too.

So in a week or so, I need to decide my next goal steps. In reality, they will pretty much be the goals I have now.

Future goals

Last night, I was thinking about my goals this year. I have a google doc that I have a list of future goals from back when I was doing well before. Some of it seems so out of reach right now. That is why I am here though. Working and fighting my way back to where I was, and beyond.

Some immediate goals I have are simple things. I want to run again. Even just a decent jog. That leads to other running goals. Like getting to run a 5k again. Seeing how fast I can get.

Once I can get myself back into working out, that brings in other goals. I’d like to be able to do a pull up. Boy, is that one far out goal right now. Still, something I want to do. So I will have to eventually have goals to support this bigger goal.

It’s always great to have big lofty goals I feel. You also have to have the smaller support goals to bring you to the big goals. Me wantign to run again is a bigger goal right now. So one of my smaller support goals is to get out and walk. Next goal would be more walking, then maybe stepping up to a Couch 2 5k program again.

I need to build this foundation, so I can reach higher and higher. What seems impossible now, might just be doable in a few months.

Monday summary

No walk done on Monday. Monday was busy. Had an appointment to talk about needs for my son. Later I had my Monday night league bowling. Not so great there. I did at least have one good game, but the other two were pretty bad for me.

Food:

MyFitnessPal Food Diary.  1868 Calories and 11 net carbs. We ended up getting a later lunch/dinner at The Habit Burger Grill. I’ve always liked the burgers there. I decided to have a lettuce wrapped charburger with a cobb salad. It added a few extra calories overall. I did have to eat a little later, because I was hunger after bowling!

Exercise:

None.

Sleep:

12:50 am to 7:38 am. I got to bed late again. My older son, and I were looking at different spots in New York. Then we would look at the google maps street view to see how it looks. Time got away from me. Otherwise, my actual sleep was alright. Just the waking up in the morning was bad. Sometimes I can’t sleep when my wife is getting ready. Noise, and I am already getting too uncomfortable to be able to sleep though it.

Tomorrow

I have another Pokémon Go EX Raid pass to do in the morning/afternoon. Maybe before, I can get a bit of a walk in. It might be time to finally get to cleaning up my computer area, plus get backups of my phone and computer.

My Journey to a Healthy Me, Day 29

Here we are, almost at the end of January. How has the month been good for you? Are you still pushing? Are you still fighting to make those resolutions into reality?

I am trying to do my best to say “Yes!” to all those questions.

Week 4 summary

This week was a bit harder for me then others. Food wise, not so much. Emotionally though, I was a little down. I’ve had a couple of nights that I felt like I was slipping into my old habits. Last night, I did stay up till 1 am watching the Royal Rumble. I’ve also had the doubts creeping in. Thinking I haven’t been making progress, and not pushing myself like I want to. I had the feelings of being overwhelmed with so much to do. Getting that done, and still feel like having too much to still do.

Still, I made progress. That is what really matters. Sometimes, I just need to remember that.

Weightloss:

I am down another 3.7 lbs this week. I went most the week feeling I hadn’t lost any.

I am down 22.6 lbs so far since the first. Can’t be upset with that. 4 weeks ago, I was 367.6. Today I am 345. That makes me feel much better!

Food:

1/22 – 1479 Calories, 8 net carbs
1/23 – 1785 Calories, 1 net carb
1/24 – 1513 Calories, 11 net carbs
1/25 – 1227 Calories, 10 net carbs
1/26 – 1420 Calories, 14 net carbs
1/27 – 1565 Calories, 11 net carbs
1/28 – 1892 Calories, 1 net carb

I had a couple of really low carb days this week. I fought against all kinds of temptations this week, and tackled eating at a restaurant. Luckily, I wasn’t really all that temped my the bad foods.

Exercise:

1/22 – none
1/23 – 2.42 miles, 43 minutes
1/24 – 2.32 miles, 41 minutes
1/25 – none
1/26 – 2.43 miles, 44 minutes
1/27 – none
1/28 – none

Only 3 walks this week. My goal was 5. Thursday I did make the mistake of leaving my fitbit on the charger all day. I only grabbed it before going out to bowling.

Even with that, this week had the most tracked steps. This coming week, I will focus more to get in 5 walks.

Sleep:

A few times this week, I have been feeling like my old late night habits want to fight back in my life. Twice, I didn’t read. Last night I stayed up till 1am. So not exactly what I like to see. Also going to work on this more this coming week. Hopefully, the new bed will be here soon.

This Coming Week

Make sure I stay on track with food. Get in my exercise. Get sleep in. We have just a few more things to work out for my trip to NYC in a couple of months. The summary next week will have my body measurements included.

Back at it in the morning!

My Journey to a Healthy Me, Day 28

Well, no walk in today. Not beating myself up over it, just disappointed that I couldn’t get it in.

A few more errands and running around today. That should start slowing up soon. Will have a 2 hour appointment tomorrow at the doctors office.

Saturday summary

I survived the Krispy Kreme apocalypse. They are still around, but not for me. I’ll watch everyone else eat then, or they will get thrown out.

Food:

MyFitnessPal Food Diary.  1565 Calories, 11 net carbs. I worried about eating out at a restaurant, but I felt like I was able to handle it well.

Exercise:

None done today.

Sleep:

12:38 am to 8:36 am. I was awake a few times, and I felt each one it seemed. The new mattress can’t get here fast enough.

Tomorrow

Appointment to deal with. I will get a Weekly summary added up. 4 weeks already!

My Journey to a Healthy Me, Day 27

Going, and going, and going…

Today, it felt like we were running around the entire day. Bowling, and blood work for the youngest. Then just all kinds of errands to run. Kiddo was a trooper. Didn’t cry until after they were done.

With all the running around, my wife wanted some steak. You know I was going to agree. So off to Outback steakhouse. I was worried a bit. I know I can’t have potatoes, and how many carbs would be in the food I was eating. On the way over, I checked online for the nutritional guide. That at least helped me have a plan of attack. Center-cut sirloin, steamed broccoli, and a house salad with ranch. I took the onions and croutons off the salad. I felt like I was able to successfully tackle the restaurant visit. Of course, I can only guess one some potions sizes, but I think I did well enough.

While we were out running around, the wife had a craving for doughnuts. She knows I am not having them. I figure she would just get a few she liked.

2 dozen Krispy Kreme doughnuts appeared. I stayed in the car, as there was no need to go in that place! A dozen glazed, then some assortment. A month or so ago, I’d easily be 3-4 doughnuts in by now. These days, I just get to see them. Oddly enough, I don’t crave them right now. Sure, I have the impulse of wanting to grab some. I just don’t have the desire to.

On to Friday summary

Friday was good. I went out and walked in the morning. Listening to the backspin channel on SirusXM, and catching lots of Pokémon.

Food:

MyFitnessPal Food Diary.  1420 Calories, 14 net carbs.  Dinner was Jersey Mike’s, and I had the Stickball in a tub.

Exercise:

2.4 miles, and almost 45 minutes. It was a nice walk. There was quite a few people out there getting their run/walk on as well.

Sleep:

Rolled a little bit around at first. I think allergies were getting to me a bit. 12:33 am to 8:22 am. Eventually I got up, because it was too painful to lie there any longer.

Good news is, we ordered a new mattress. We got the Casper Wave mattress. A bit pricey, but worth it if I get some great sleep. I’ll post more about it, once we get it in.

Tomorrow

A few more errands to get done. I have my raid in WoW. I also really need to get started with my computer area clean up. I have almost everything ready. Just need to get it going.

My Journey to a Healthy Me, Day 26

Back in the fight on day 26, or at least trying. I did get out for a walk this morning. Also made more plans for my trip to New York in March. Later, had a Costco run with the wife. Picked up a few meats. I’ll need to check out some recipes for them.

Thursday Wrap up

Yesterday turned out ok. I didn’t walk. I was pretty happy with how I bowled in my Thursday night league. I also did cook some chicken breasts for me to have over the next few days.

Food:

MyFitnessPal Food Diary. 1227 Calories,  10 Net carbs.  Didn’t have a breakfast. I wasn’t that hungry at first. I figured I would save it, and have breakfast for lunch. Just a ham and cheese omelet, with three strips of bacon. Later for dinner, we had McDonalds. Double cheeseburger with no bun, onions, or ketchup. Then the Bacon Ranch Chicken Salad with my dressing at home. Calories ran a bit low. I may try to increase it some. My body might not be ready to do that low if a calorie deficit.

Exercise:

None done today. To hit my goal of 5 days walked, I need to go Friday, Saturday, and Sunday. I did tackle a walk this morning. So two more to go.

Sleep:

12:35 am to 7:32 am. I felt like I slept OK, except in the morning. I just got too uncomfortable. I was at least, back in bed haha.

Tomorrow

My son bowls in the morning. Next we have to take him for some blood work. Then it is off to run errands time. At some point, I need to squeeze that walk in

My Journey to a Healthy Me, Day 25

Man, I am slipping way to late at night with my posts lately.

So last night, I went to bed on time, and the wife was up. She said I may want to consider sleeping on the couch, because she felt very nauseous. So, I elected to sleep on the couch.

Sleep actually was decent.

I didn’t get out for a walk today. I did however get chicken cooked.

I bowled well tonight. 228-224-203 for a 655 Series.

Emotionally, I have felt fine. Mostly. I was a little disheartened today, because my brain thinks I should be doing better then I am with weight loss. I know it will come, I just need to keep moving on. Was even considering that maybe I am eating too few calories. Something I may need to check.

All other fronts, things are going great.

Wednesday summary

Overall good day. Got to do an EX Raid in Pokémon Go, got my walk in, and played World of Warcraft with some friends online.

Food:

MyFitnessPal Food Diary. 1513 Calories, 11 net carbs. No complaints really.

Exercise:

2.32 miles, 41 minutes. A good morning walk.

Sleep:

12:34 am to 8:58 am. I did wake up a couple of times to adjust, but not a bad night of sleep on the couch!

Back at it tomorrow. Time for a Costco run to get food.

My Journey to a Healthy Me, Day 24

Another day in, and I am feeling great.

Today I got to do a Pokémon Go EX Raid. The EX raid invites come from doing other raids at some gyms. The EX raid is currently Mewtwo. My invite was for a gym at the Great Mall nearby. There was so many people there for it. Must to have been at least 50 people there. It was pretty cool. The Bose store next by even played the Pokémon theme while we were out there haha.

Came home and played some World of Warcraft with friends.

Tuesday Recap

Well, I got out for a walk. Did ok with food. Oddly enough, I only had 1 carb on the whole day. Otherwise, just played some World of Warcraft with friends.

Food:

MyFitnessPal Food Diary.  1785 Calories, 1 net carb. Pretty funny. Lots of calories, but almost no carbs. Food just worked out that way.

Exercise:

2.42 miles, 43 minutes. Grabbed plenty of Pokéstops out there.

Sleep:

12:32 am to 7:49 am. Sleep felt rough. I had a hard time getting to sleep. Then when I did wake up, it felt like I tossed and turned all night. I did feel a bit tired this morning, but soon it was no problem. Even got out for a walk today as well.

Tomorrow

I really need to get some cooking done. Will also have bowling to do.

My Journey to a Healthy Me, Day 23

Man, I need to stop these late night posts. Ahh well. Day has been going well. I did just get back from my walk. Plenty of music to listen to, and Pokémon to catch.

Feeling excited today. Everything is starting to come together. In a couple of months, I will be headed to New York to bowl in the USBC Open Tournament. This will be my Eleventh year bowling the tournament. I missed one year in 2010 when my mother passed away. The event is a lot of fun. The condition is a lot harder then the typical house shot at a normal bowling center. Plus, you get to travel to places. I think this year there are about 7-8000 teams registered to bowl. Each team is five members. That is a lot of bowlers! More on this when I get closer to go time.

Monday recap

Ohh man, bowling was rough. My team got destroyed. I did not bowl well my first couple of games. I did bowl a decent third game at least. I didn’t get out for a walk, but that is fine.

Food:

MyFitnessPal Food Diary.  1479 Calories, 8 net carbs. I didn’t eat breakfast, but did have a larger lunch, and a bit of a light dinner.

Exercise:

Not done, other then my bowling!

Sleep:

12:28 am to 8:34 am. Though it was a rough wake up. Sometimes I just can’t sleep through my wife getting ready for work. Too many lights or noise. Plus, I’m already sore at that time.

Tomorrow

More trip planning. I need to go to the store to pick up some food as well. Can’t go too crazy since the wife doesn’t get paid till Friday! I also need to start working on my computer area. It’s a mess right now. It might take a bit, but it is one project that is overdue.

My Journey to a Healthy Me, Day 22

Week 3 Wrap up

I was going to write up a summary for yesterday, but it will be included in my Week 3 wrap up.

I have to say, this week has me feeling great. Not only do I feel like I am in a good place with my food intake, but I feel amazing emotionally. There is a lot going on with me right now. Preparation for future bowling trips, etc. It just seems like life is all flowing in the right way for me.

My blood sugar levels have seemed pretty normal since dropping all my diabetes medications. I looked at my test results, and they looked fine to me. Just waiting to see if my doctor says anything. Otherwise, I am going to stay off that medication!

Weight loss wise, I am losing weight again. Last week was a stall week for sure. I thought I was only down one or two pounds when I weighed myself this morning. Then I looked over the numbers, and saw that I am 5 pounds lighter this week. That is a total of 19 pounds since January 1st.

367.6 lbs on January 1st
348.6 lbs on January 22nd

Weight loss hasn’t been something I want to focus on. It is the side effect from eating properly, and getting in exercise. I am very happy to see things moving how I want.

Food:

1/15 –  1426 Calories, 16 net carbs
1/16 –  1438 Calories, 12 net carbs
1/17 –  1781 Calories, 12 net carbs
1/18 –  1401 Calories, 9 net carbs
1/19 –  1458 Calories, 9 net carbs
1/20 –  1288 Calories, 12 net carbs
1/21 –  1301 Calories, 13 net carbs

This week, I didn’t have any real cravings for food. Temptation was all around with pizza and fried foods at bowling. I even had Cinnamon candy Oreo’s to deal with at home. Nothing tempted me to stay from my eating. Yes, I would have enjoyed all those things a month ago, but the me now doesn’t want it. Maybe someday, but first I need to get myself to my goal area.

Exercise:

Pretty close to my first week. Beat week 2 for sure.

1/15 – None
1/16 – 1.3 Miles, 22 minutes
1/17 – None
1/18 – None
1/19 – 2.6 Miles, 47 minutes
1/20 – None
1/21 – 2.3 Miles, 41 minutes

I think this coming week, I need to increase my walking days to 5. I need to push. Plus last night, I started to get that urge to try running again. I still think I might be too heavy for that. If I keep this up though, it won’t be long.

Sleep:

Sleep has mostly been fine. Quite a few morning I woke up sore, but hopefully a new bed can fix that. I feel like my routine is working well. Computer off at 11:30 pm, then reading till 12:30 am. Some days I flex a little with this, but it is the general idea of what I am doing.

I have made it through Leviathan Wakes, the first book in the Expanse series. So tonight, I am on to book 2.

Pushing harder to week 4

Onward we go into week 4. Push harder, keep working.

My Journey to a Healthy Me, Day 21

Today started off with these on the kitchen island

My wife was worried I would be upset. I like the cinnamon candy like red hots, and of course it is Oreo. Luckily, I had no “OMG MUST EAT IT!!!” impulses. I am curious how it is, but it actually didn’t bug me.

I also got a email from Fitbit. It displayed my 2017 stats.

Now I know what I need to beat in 2018!

It is later, and I still need to get in a walk. Before that though, time for my recap.

Saturday Recap

I didn’t get out for a walk. I had late bowling that was an hour plus drive. Food eating was a bit weird because of this, and I think my sleep was off a bit, because I had too much on my mind.

Food:

MyFitnessPal Food Diary. 1288 Calories, 12 net carbs. Because of the bowling, I had to eat earlier, then I ate when I got home. This was like 10:30 pm though, so really late.

Exercise:

None done. I didn’t get out early, and there was no way to get out after bowling.

Sleep:

Fitbit tracked me 12:30 am to 8:12 am. Not bad for hours, but I did have trouble getting to sleep.

Monday

Tomorrow brings my week 3 summary.
