My Journey to a Healthy Me, Day 267

It’s time for a new week! Monday is here. Let’s get out there and take the week by storm! 🙂

Time for a good old week in review.

Weight Loss

I am 276.2 lbs this morning. 88.6 lbs total since January 1st. While I am disappointed to not see more results here, but I just have to stick with the progress. I know that I had one really horrible over eating day last week, and a few, I over ate. I was sick a bit. I have also been doing more exercise this week, adding to body stress. My hope, is that by next week, I will really have that whoosh moment, and everything is clicking again.

This is making those weight loss goals of mine a lot harder to get before the end of the year. Still, I am going for all I can do on it!

Food
09/17 MyFitnessPal – 1728 Calories, 8 net carbs, 112 g Protein, 129 g Fats
09/18 MyFitnessPal – 1813 Calories, 7 net carbs, 85 g Protein, 146 g Fats
09/19 MyFitnessPal – 1916 Calories, 8 net carbs, 91 g Protein, 154 g Fats
09/20 MyFitnessPal – 1704 Calories, 8 net carbs, 102 g Protein, 134 g Fats
09/21 MyFitnessPal – 1715 Calories, 4 net carbs, 144 g Protein, 117 g Fats
09/22 MyFitnessPal – 1543 Calories, 9 net carbs, 99 g Protein, 113 g Fats
09/23 MyFitnessPal – 1815 Calories, 4 net carbs, 184 g Protein, 111 g Fats

I did have a couple of days that my IF was not done on my normal times. Like one night I at some pork the wife made at 7:30 pm. I just made sure the next day I ate later. I actually had a couple of days I didn’t eat until noon. I also made some progress of trying to have higher fats then protein. It is much harder to do when there isn’t many options left to choose from here at home. Still, I am doing what I can.

Exercise
I did in fact get in all 3 workouts this weekend, and had my walk yesterday as well. Not bad. I had skipped some bowling because I was feeling sick, but still got the workouts done.

Monday:
3 x 10 squats
3 x 10 Elevated pushups (done at my kitchen counter)
3 x 10 Doorway bodyweight rows
3 x 30 secs farmers walk. I used 15lb dumbbells in each hand, and just walked the circle around my kitchen and living room area.

Wednesday:
3 x 10 sets “Good Morning”
3 x 5 sets “Standing Wall Walk”
3 x 5 seconds each leg “One Leg Balance”
3 x 20 seconds “Planks”

Friday:
3 x 10 squats
3 x 10 Elevated pushups (done at my kitchen counter)
3 x 10 Doorway bodyweight rows
3 x 30 secs farmers walk. I used 15lb dumbbells in each hand

Sunday:
Went for a bit of a walk. Over 5k steps on fitbit

This may seem small right now, but it is a big step int he right direction for me. I completed the “Boss Battle with General Doms” on the NerdFitness Academy today. So I am moving up to level 2 workouts now.

Sleep
09/18 – 11:36 PM to 7:00 AM. 6 hrs 54 mins. 15 x awake for 30 mins.
09/19 – 11:37 PM to 6:59 AM. 6 hrs 53 mins. 14 x awake for 29 mins.
09/20 – 11:36 PM to 6:59 AM. 6 hrs 46 mins. 14 x awake for 37 mins.
09/21 – 11:35 PM to 6:51 AM. 6 hrs 48 mins. 10 x awake for 28 mins.
09/22 – 11:39 PM to 7:26 AM. 6 hrs 59 mins. 14 x awake for 48 mins.
09/23 – 11:58 PM to 8:52 AM. 8 hrs. 19 x awake for 54 mins.
09/24 – 11:29 PM to 6:45 AM. 6 hrs 25 mins. 14 x awake for 51 mins

Each night, I did get in my reading before heading to bed. Only the one night I decided to finish the chapter out. So I lose points. Last night was a really rough sleep, or lack of sleep. A couple of warmer nights had me moving around a bit too much too. Overall though, I feel like my sleep has improved.

I am toying around with the idea to move my sleep up 30 minutes. It is mostly in my head that feel like I shouldn’t go to bed that early. My body just might appreciate that extra time for sleep though.

This Week

More of the same this week. My exercise will increase in difficulty. I want to try getting out for more walking. I may need to get some fat bombs made to help keep my numbers were I want them.

My Journey to a Healthy Me, Days 265 & 266

I didn’t get in to blog yesterday. I just ran a bit late.

Today, I did get out for a walk this morning/afternoon. I live near buy some stores. Just about 20 minutes to walk over there. So I went to Gamestop, and did some Pokemon Go stuff during my walk. I had a bit of fun going out for my walk. It felt really good, even with it being a bit warmer this week. Next week, I should try to get more walking in.

After my walk, I tackled the wing making! I tried out two different flavors, but they are both pretty similar. I saw that Ketoconnect.net uses baking powder for their wings. This helps to make them crispy in the oven. It worked pretty well. I think I cooked mine just a few minutes too long I think. Not burnt, but some got a little close. 😉 I’ll be finishing them off in the next couple days.

I got to sleep a little later then I should have last night. I did get in 8 hours of sleep though. It wasn’t a solid sleep. I woke up a few times. Mind was also racing a lot, and it took awhile to actually get to sleep.

Keto Resets

Recently, it seems like there are a lot of people getting back into Keto. A few youtube people have started up their Keto Resets.

Headbanger’s Kitchen

Highfalutin’ Low Carb

Dot2Trot

I for one, and really glad that they are willing to share their stories with us. I know that I have followed quite a few people in their journeys. I have gotten some amazing recipes to try for these folks. I think it really just helps people to know, that life happens. We are humans.

I have done really well myself, sticking to this keto journey. Though I too went off when I went to New York. I was perfectly OK with it though. I knew I was going to be on a great vacation, and wanted to sample all the foods I could get. 🙂

So for whatever reason that you might have fallen off Keto, you can get back on. I have done it. Sahil from Headbanger’s Kitchen has done it a few times I believe.

One day at a time guys. You can do this. We can all do this!

Tomorrow

Alright, tomorrow is summary day. Back to the grind. I will take my kid to school, workout, and probably figure out more things to get done around here. I need to get some Almond flour and butter. I am missing my KetoConnect 90 second mug bread! 🙂

My Journey to a Healthy Me, Day 264

Friday is here! Well, it is almost over now. I was able to get in my workout this morning. I did it in a fasted state as well.

I didn’t get chicken wings made. We did go get a few little things tonight. I need to hit up the store soon. I need to restock all my keto goods. 😉

Yesterday

Food:
09/20 MyFitnessPal – 1704 Calories, 8 net carbs, 102 g Protein, 134 g Fats. Hit my numbers pretty well. Fat is higher then protein. Calories were not too high.

Exercise:
No extra exercise. Just my normal Thursday bowling.

Sleep:

11:35 PM to 6:51 AM. 6 hrs 48 mins. 10 x awake for 28 mins. Not bad on my sleep. I am getting in my reading, and I can feel these extra few minutes of sleep I am getting. No more 12:30 am bed times for me. At least, not while I am taking my kid to school. haha.

Tomorrow

Pokemon Community Day is happening tomorrow. I plan on getting out there with my older son at least. We might also head out to a hockey game, but will have to wait and see. Otherwise, just more stuff around the house to get done, and need to get to the stores to pick up some items.

My Journey to a Healthy Me, Day 263

I am feeling much better today. Well enough, that I did get out to bowl. Overall, I did well too. Quite happy to be able to get back out there again.

I didn’t get any other exercise done today. Thursdays are always a little tougher, just because it is minimum days for my kid. It feel like the time is just so short between when I get home, then have to leave to pick him up.

Yesterday

Food:
09/19 MyFitnessPal – 1916 Calories, 8 net carbs, 91 g Protein, 154 g Fats. So I hit the low carbs, and had more fats then protein. I did workout yesterday, so the calorie numbers are close to where they should be.

Wife had made that pork last night, and I had to try some. This added a few more calories then I wanted. This also made me start my fast later. It was more like 7:30 pm. I did wait today to eat until 1 pm though.

Sleep:

11:36 pm to 6:59 am. 6 hrs 46 mins. 14 x awake for 37 mins. I did get in my reading before bed. I slept fine, until about 5:30 am. I woke up a little, then just never really got back into a good sleep. It is OK though, I didn’t really feel like I was tired today.

Exercise:
Nothing super awesome like weight lifting or anything, but these exercises are much harder then I though.

3 x 10 sets “Good Morning”
3 x 5 sets “Standing Wall Walk”
3 x 5 seconds each leg “One Leg Balance”
3 x 20 seconds “Planks”

Tomorrow

It is the start of the weekend! Well, almost. 🙂 Going to make some wings. Need to get in my workout, and the normal school day routine.

My Journey to a Healthy Me, Day 262

Wife threw together some pork top sirloin when she came home today 🙂

We had gotten it from Costco awhile back. We were looking for some recipes earlier today. She ended up making some pulled pork style tacos for herself. I tried a little bit, but I really already had my food for the day. I will enjoy it more tomorrow!

Today, I am feeling much better. I didn’t get out for a walk, but I did get a little workout in.

Yesterday

Food:

09/18 MyFitnessPal – 1813 Calories, 7 net carbs, 95 g protein, 146 g fats.

Since I didn’t do any exercising yesterday, I am over my calories a bit. Should have been closer to 1787 max. Still, I did well with getting greater amounts of fats in vs protein. I was also really low in net carbs.

Exercise:

I did get in my workout on Monday. Tuesday I could have walked, but didn’t feel like it. Still having a bit of this cold or whatever. This week I do want to get out walking at least once.

Sleep:

11:37 pm to 6:59 am. 6 hrs 53 mins. 14 x awake for 29 minutes. I did get in my reading before bed as well.

The last couple of nights, I have been getting much better sleep. I notice that my awake times are lower, and for much shorted distances. It part from it not being so hot anymore in the room, and the tint in the windows is working.

Tomorrow

Bowling day. I am feeling better now, so I should be able to make it to leagues. I have plenty of pork to eat now, but I want to make some chicken wings. I saw that Ketoconnect likes to use some baking powder in their wings to keep them crispy. Going to have to try that.

My Journey to a Healthy Me, Day 261

I am feeling a bit better today. I hope this means I am getting over whatever cold/viral thing. No exercise today, but I did feel like I could have went out for a walk. Instead, I stayed home and did some cleaning. haha.

Yesterday, I skipped out on bowling. I just started feeling so bad before I was to leave. I figured I would not bowl and spread germs out to people.

Food

09/17 MyFitnessPal – 1728 Calories, 8 net carbs. 112 g protein, 129 g fats. I am trying to keep fats > protein. So I hit that. Also stayed low on the net carbs. The calories might be a little lower then I should have, because I did get in my workout as well. Though I don’t think of the body weight workouts as too stressful so far. I think I am OK in this range of calories. Especially since I had so many calories the day before.

Exercise

3 x 10 squats
3 x 10 Elevated pushups (done at my kitchen counter)
3 x 10 Doorway bodyweight rows
3 x 30 secs farmers walk. I used 15lb dumbbells in each hand, and just walked the circle around my kitchen and living room area.

I got this done in the morning, after I came back home.

Sleep

11:36 pm to 7 am. 6 hrs 54 mins total sleep. 15 x awake for 30 minutes. I got in my reading before hand. I was pretty tired from waking up early the previous day. When my alarm went off, I did feel like I needed more sleep, but overall it was a good night. The window tint I have on the bedroom window has been working great. The room is much darker in the morning now.

Tomorrow

Workout day 2 tomorrow. I need to get some food prepped as well. Time to dig out some items from the freezer. I hope I am over the hump with being sick. Thursday will be back to bowling, if I am.

My Journey to a Healthy Me, Days 257-260

Well, I am up really early this morning. I got to bed on time last night, but woke up at 4 am. Wouldn’t you know it, my brain went into super active mode. I tried lying there in hopes of falling back to sleep. I have up after 1 1/2 hours.

Over the last few days, I have been trying to get into my new habits/goals. My Nerdfitness challenge starts today. I have struggled this week though.

Being sick

Now this last week, I have been a bit under the weather. It isn’t super flu or something though. Mostly like a head cold, or sinus congestion mixed with some weird stomach issues.

This has caused me to not sleep as well. I have also not had a very strong will power to get things done.

Even with my weird stomach pains, I still have been eating way to much. Just yesterday, I ate over 3000 calories. It’s almost like I have a tummy ache unless I fill it haha. Of course then, I have the ache anyway.

Self Sabotage

I have also been wondering how much of this week has been caused by self sabotage. I had my big realizations this week, of just how close I am to reaching some major weight loss goals for myself. So what do I do, I have multiple days of overeating.

09/10 MyFitnessPal – 1983 Calories, 14 net carbs
09/11 MyFitnessPal – 1900 Calories, 11 net carbs
09/12 MyFitnessPal – 1818 Calories, 10 net carbs
09/13 MyFitnessPal – 1854 Calories, 8 net carbs
09/14 MyFitnessPal – 2632 Calories, 14 net carbs
09/15 MyFitnessPal – 1719 Calories, 17 net carbs
09/16 MyFitnessPal – 3323 Calories, 15 net carbs

I haven’t been working out, or really doing much of anything this week for exercise. So really my target for days like that is more 1668-1787 calories. Only one day I hit that. 1862-1995 is about where I should be for my lightly active days.

So why do I do this. I’m not sure. Afraid of the change?

I have done similar in the past. Hell, I think that is what brought on my weight rebound in the past too.

This week

My plan is to hit this new Nerdfitness Challenge at full speed. I am still feeling whatever this cold junk is. I just have to battle through it. I also need to be aware that fat me is still at war with fit me. Fat me is trying to take sneaky tactics in the war, by making me want to over eat all the time. haha. Knowing is half the battle, right? Time to get this moving!

My Journey to a Healthy Me, Day 256

Well here I am trying to get pumped up with my journey, and I start feeling sick. haha. Nothing too serious yet, but it is starting to give me troubles with sleep.

I have been trying to get myself back into a good rhythm. Next Monday is the start of my next Nerdfitness Challenge. Work in progress, but I am making some gains.

I want to check out my macros a bit more often to make sure I am hitting where I need to for weight loss.

Macros

I am using the Keto Calculator over at Ruled.me.

Now I have to consider the range I want to look at. For my restriction, I want to be at 30%. Though 25% wouldn’t be bad either. The real question, is and I going to stay Sedentary, or get in activity. I want to be active, but I know there will be some slower days.

Sedentary, 30% deficit / Sedentary, 25% deficit

1668 Calories / 1787 Calories
122 g Fats / 135 g Fats
19 g Carbs / 19 g Carbs
124 g Protein / 124 g Protein

Lightly Active, 30% deficit / Lightly Active, 25% deficit

1862 Calories / 1995 Calories
125 g Fats / 140 g Fats
19 g Carbs / 19 g Carbs
165 g Protein / 165 g Protein

Moderately Active 30% deficit / Moderately Active 25% deficit

2011 Calories / 2154 Calories
142 g Fats / 158 g Fats
19 g Carbs / 19 g Carbs
165 g Protein / 165 g Protein

I do like having more calories, because it means I can eat more. I do like to eat 😉 Now, I don’t think I am going to be quite to Moderately Active level to start off. When I am eventually lifting with weights, then yes. Maybe even as my workouts increase in intensity.

For now, I think I am starting off with the Lightly active range. Though I think I want more carbs then proteins overall. I can work on that. I plan on getting body weight workouts in. They are not starting off super long. Plus, I do want to start walking more. Then of course bowling days. 🙂

Tomorrow

Time to start back into my daily check ins with sleep charts and such. This weekend, we will be getting quite a few groceries. It’s been a little tight these last couple if weeks.

My Journey to a Healthy Me, Day 255

Yesterday, I started up a new challenge thread over at Nerdfitness. “Tateman – Counting down to the end of the year already

The new challenge runs from September 17th to October 4th. For me though, I am starting the challenge today.

Part of setting up my new challenge, was realizing just how close I was to some of my weight loss goals. I went over a bit of this in my blog post yesterday. I fleshed out more of it in my Nerdfitness post.

Numbers to consider

My lowest “adult” record weight that I can remember is 257. I weighed that on October 8, 2014. During my middle school years, I remember being pretty much 225 lbs the whole time. High school and after that, I do not really recall. I have always been bigger.

A little background

8th grade, at 225 lbs, I hit my one big goal. Through all the grades 6-8th, we had to run/walk a half mile twice a week in PE Class. I think in 7th they added mile runs. I had never been a runner, but I saw something that stuck a cord with me. I saw other kids running the half mile fast. Most of us rebellious teens were fighting the power by not caring, and not running the half mile. Still, the goal popped into my head. Before I leave this school, I will run this half mile in under 3 minutes.

I think in 7th grade I actually started to run it more. On into 8th grade I was better, but I never pushed. My friend in my class was very fast. He was one that was always finishing way ahead of us all. Finally, the last run of the year came up. This was the last time I would run here. My friend had broke his ankle, so he was on the sidelines in his cast. I decided that I just had to go for it. Give it all I had. The teacher blew the whistle, and we were all off. I was flying. The fastest I have ever moved in my life. (under my own power). I was toward the back of the back to start, but was making my way up. Eventually, I caught up to another classmate that was one of the faster kids. I burned past him. I was in the lead now. Not stopping, still pushing.

Eventually, I came around the last turn on our half mile. I saw my friend jumping up and down (best he could on a broken leg 😉 ) He was waving me in. I felt like I was just running so fast. It was incredible. I hit that finish line at 2 minutes 57 seconds. I had done it. It was a weird feeling to me, but a moment I will never really forget.

Flashback over

OK, flashback is over. That feeling I had though, is part of what made me want to get to my lowest weight before. It is what drove me to train, and complete an actual 5k. The farthest I had ever ran in my life.

Now looking at my weight numbers, I am starting to feel all fired up again.

Here are some weight loss goals. I currently weight 275.8 lbs.

  1. I want to drop to 100 lbs total lost this year by my birthday on November 2nd. I am 10 lbs away from this goal, today.
  2. I want to go under my lowest recorded adult weight, 257. I am 18.8 lbs away.
  3. I want to reach my middle school weight. 225. I am 50.8 lbs away
  4. My eventual goal weight is to be about 185. 90.8 lbs from that

That 100 lbs down should be quite easy to hit before my birthday. So lets push toward the next goal. 19 pounds to become my lowest weight. If I work hard, I think I can do that before year end. What about that next goal though. 225. A number I though I would not see in well, forever. I am only 51 lbs away from that.

What if I can get there before the year is up? I know, it is crazy, but I am all about this crazy stretch goal. For some reason, this has me more fired up then I have been in awhile. Now, I don’t know that it would actually be possible for me to lose 51 lbs in the three months left. But I ask myself, what if? What if I can do it? To me, this is that impossible goal. Like the impossible goal for me ever running a 5k. The impossible goal to ever run a half mine in under 3 minutes.

This goal, I might fail. There is good chance I will. I have all off the holidays in the way, and my birthday. But still, what if?

I’ve been thinking of this all day really. You know, even if I don’t make the 225 mark. The mark I do hit will be an amazing accomplishment to get too.

So there it is. My crazy impossible goal to hit 225 lbs on or before December 31st 2018.

Supporting that goal

Now I have do everything I can to support that goal. I have t in my Nerdfitness thread. Staying keto, checking macros, tracking everything, Intermittent fasting, getting enough sleep, and getting into exercise much more.

I want to look back at the last year and say “I can’t believe I did that”

My Journey to a Healthy Me, Days 244-254

Well, it has been too long since I blogged. I won’t lie, August was a bit of a struggle. It was mostly emotional. I struggled hard with the mental game. Even when I was coming out of it, I dropped back into nasty emotional feelings.

Now though, I am coming back out of the mental fog. With the mental struggle, other aspects of my goals suffered some.

My food stayed keto! I may have had a few (maybe even more then a few) days over overeating, but each day I kept it keto. I think one day I was slightly higher carbs because I didn’t calculate it correctly until after I ate. Not too big of a deal though. So #1 this stayed mostly on track.

My exercise did not however. I had my arm injury to deal with. That prevented me from bowling, and starting on the body weight workouts I wanted to get done. The mental struggles made it that much easier for me to give in, and not workout. A few days I did try to push on. One particularly bad day, I still made myself do some squats while I was cooking food in the oven. Eventually, my arm felt much better. I am back bowling now, and pain free. I am still babying my arm a bit. I don’t want to stress it out too much. I have done some of the body weight workouts I wanted to start with, and my arm seemed fine with those. Of course, I haven’t been on point this week with workouts. Still trying to get myself adjusted to the schedule of getting my son to school.

Probably one of the worst goals to mess up, is my sleep. Which I have done multiple times over this last month. Even last night, I was going to bed after 1 am. This is a no go when I have to be up at 7 am. I get too tired to want to do anything. It just creates a poor situation to start the day off with.

All that happening, and technically, I still lost weight. 🙂 Only 5.3 lbs this last month. Mostly these last couple of weeks really. During my struggles, I gained some weight back. Just like a couple of pounds.

Now for some Power of Positivity

It hasn’t all been bad news this last month.

First off, I am now down 89 lbs since January 1st of this year. I weighed in yesterday at 275.8 lbs. I was trying to have a goal to get to 100 lbs down by my birthday (November 2nd). I should be able to crush that goal.

Since I will crush that 100 lbs gone before my birthday, I have been thinking of a new goal today. My official lowest weight ever (at least pretty much adulthood), is 257 lbs. I got to that weight in October 8th, 2014. I was 225 lbs though pretty much all of middle school. My new goal, is to see if I can get lower then 257 lbs before the beginning of next year. That basically gives me 3 months to drop 18.8 lbs. Who knows, maybe I can completely crush that number too, and hit my middle school weight.

People have been noticing more. It is time for the winter bowling leagues to start back up. Some people I haven’t seen in a couple of months. They have noticed a different. My son is in 2nd grade this year. He still sees his old kindergarten teacher from time to time. She saw me at the beginning of this school year. She told me that she barley even recognized me. she was amazed.

The jeans, I still had from when I was this low before, are feeling a lot looser. I feel like I need to go get a new pair of jeans soon. I am fitting into some of my smaller shirts that I saved.

Overall, despite the mental struggle last month, I am feeling great.
